Over Christmas break, my family wound up spending 2 straight hours watching viral videos on YouTube.  Usually, no good comes from watching viral videos, but this may be an exception.

One of the videos that made the rounds in 2008 was for a “musical road” created by Honda for a Civic commercial.  When I learned that this road was “only” 70 miles away, in Lancaster, I knew that I would have to seek it out.

Sadly, I learned that the road only lasted for 19 days.  Neighbors complained that they – and their dogs – could hear it from a mile away, at all times of the day and night.  The city stepped back in and paved it over.

But the spark of civic pride remained, and Lancaster wound up finding a new site.  They recreated the musical road away from houses.  (I only wish that they had tuned it better on the second go-around!)

So ever since late December, the siren song of the musical road has been calling me, and this weekend L and I made the trek to check it out.  I’ll post more on the surprising delights of Lancaster itself, but for now, here is the famous William Tell overture, performed by my ‘98 Honda Accord:
